Thomas Paumier, DDS




Dr. Paumier is a native of North Canton and graduated from Hoover High School in 1979.  He attended The Ohio State University and received a B.S. In Microbiology in 1983.  He received his D.D.S. degree, with honors, from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1987.  He then completed a one year General Practice Residency (GPR) at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, OH.  He established his private practice in Canton in 1988 and has been at his current location since 1990.

Dr. Paumier has been active in organized dentistry serving on the Stark County Dental Society Board of Directors and as President in 1999.  He currently serves as an Emeritus Board member.  Dr. Paumier has also served in many leadership positions for the Ohio Dental Association, including 4 years as Treasurer and as President from 2014-2015.  Dr. Paumier has served on and chaired numerous Councils and Committees at the American Dental Association including as a Consultant  to Scientific Affairs.  

Dr. Paumier is on the active Medical Staff of Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and was instrumental in developing the General Practice Residency which began in 2007, and was named the  “Thomas M. Paumier DDS General Practice Residency in Dentistry” in 2022 in his honor.  He continues to serve as a clinical instructor.   Dr. Paumier is currently the Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Board of Trustees, and is on the Executive Committee of the Cleveland Clinic Ohio Regional Hospitals Board of Directors.  He is a charter member of the Mercy Development Foundation Board and completed four years as Chairman in 2023. 

Dr. Paumier lectures nationally on topics in Oral Medicine and clinical dentistry.  He teaches 3rd and 4th year dental students at Case School of Dental Medicine and dental faculty and  residents at NYU Langone Medical Center.  He has been published in numerous dental journals including the Journal of the American Dental Association.  He has co-authored 3 national clinical practice guidelines related to antibiotic use for patients with prosthetic joints and patients with dental infections.  He was one of 6 dentists appointed by the American Dental Association to develop guidelines for dentists to safely practice during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Paumier is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists,  and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.  He lives in North Canton with his wife Christy.
